How many times has this happened to you?
One day your laboratory gets a call from the pathologist regarding a case he was provided. He wanted to track what was done on a particular block as there appears to be some unexpected tissue or artifacts on several slides. Mis-labeling, tissue seperation, unexpected staining or morphology, the list goes on. How confident are you in your ability to tell that pathologist exactly what happened to that tissue from being placed into a cassette to being sectioned on slides and stained? Are there areas in your process where there is a possibility of misidentification or improper labeling? Are you sure that your handwriting or printing solution can reliably identify your slide via human readable text and/or barcoding?
