E-cadherin is a transmembrane cell adhesion glycoprotein that is critical for epithelial junction formation. E-cadherin is expressed in a majority epithelial cells.
Strong membraneous staining is observed in the colonic epithelium and is absent in the stromal cells.
Moderately strong membrane staining is seen in the hepatocytes, while strong staining is observed in the bile ducts.
This image demonstrates negative E-Cadherin staining among the infiltrating lobular carcinoma cells in the breast stroma, as well as in the in situ component.
